While some dreamed of buying palaces in Flint, Mich., here’s what was going on on the higher-end of the housing market.
Eli Broad, the founder and former chief executive of home-builder KB Home, cut the price of his home on New York’s Fifth Avenue to $10.95 million, 27% less than August’s initial asking price of $15 million, then apparently took the listing off the market. The full-floor cooperative apartment on the 33rd floor of the Sherry-Netherland Hotel has six rooms, including two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a powder room and a library. It has views of Central Park and access to hotel amenities. (WSJ)
Lance Armstrong cuts the price on his estate in Dripping Springs, Texas from $12 million to $10.5 million. Built in 2003, the 4,241-square-foot home has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and an infinity-edge pool. The 447-acre property includes seven miles of hike-and-bike trails and 1,886 feet of frontage on the Pedernales River. (The Austin-American Statesmen via Zillow)
Hong Kong businessman and philanthropist Eric Hotung lists his New York apartment for $3.99 million. Measuring roughly 2,500-square-feet, the co-op unit is in the Osborne, which was built in 1885 and is diagonally across from Carnegie Hall. Mr. Hotung’s apartment is on the ninth-floor and includes one bedroom, two bathrooms, two powder rooms and a library. Mr. Hotung bought the apartment about 10 years ago and added a jade onyx entryway, mahogany floors and wall paneling. (WSJ)
Stephen Baldwin’s home just north of New York City will be auctioned publicly on June 24 after the actor and his wife, Kennya, defaulted on paying $824,488.36 to mortgage holder Bankers Trust Co. County filings show that the couple also owes National City Bank money for a separate mortgage and may owe money in unpaid state and federal taxes on the property. The Baldwins paid $515,000 for the circa-1850 home in 1997. They put it on the market for $3.4 million in 2006 but were unable to sell it. (The Journal News)
European real-estate developer Jean-Claude Rahn and his wife, Ursula Neuerburg, whose family founded German cigarette manufacturer Haus Neuerburg, list their modernist villa on the French Riviera for 38.5 million euros (about $54 million). Completed last year, the home is built on a steep hillside and has panoramic views of the Mediterranean. It has seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, two terraces, gardens and two pools in 9,300-square-feet. Richard Foos, the former head of Rhino Records lists his Mediterranean home in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles for $19.9 million. Mr. Foos and his wife Shari spent three years building the 10,000-square-foot home, completed in 2002, and an additional three years decorating it. The gated house has seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, seven fireplaces, hand-painted walls and beams, a meditation room and a pool. It also has views of the Santa Monica Mountains. (Los Angeles Times)
Actor Michael Paul Chan of the TNT drama “The Closer” buys a midcentury modern home in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles for $1.08 million. Built in 1952, the 1,864-square-foot home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. (Los Angeles Times)
